We booked a River Cruise 5 months ahead of time and paid for the Main deck cabin. The lower deck cabin has 2 small portal windows compared to full sized sliding glass doors to a deck.

After traveling from the US to Nice France and staying overnight there, we proceeded to Arles, where the boat was located. Instead of being given a main deck cabin we were shown downstairs to a lower deck cabin. For my Mother, age 87, and not used to climbing steps, this was distressing. For me it was truly disappointing. There was absolutely nothing we could do since we were 3600 miles from home.

I have been in contact with GCT, they immediately credited us with the amount that they say was the difference between the two accommodations. I have asked them to consider that the price that they are using for the lower deck is much too high, giving us less compensation than we deserve.

This company often discounts empty cabins up to 30% to attract last minute travelers. They refuse to consider that being 3600 miles from home and not having the option to refuse is comparable to really last minute arrangements. It seems obvious to me that they advertise a great experience but are not willing to compensate adequately when their error has spoiled the experience.

Monetary Loss: $500.
